Legislative Delegation Tours Duracell North American and Global Research and Development Headquarters in Bethel
Bethel- On Thursday July 7th, State Senator Toni Boucher joined State Representatives Janice Giegler, Bob Godfrey, Stephen Harding, John Shaban, and JP Sredzinski, to tour the Duracell facility.
Duracell has been in Bethel since 1974, employs 300 people, and supports several internship programs and STEM education.
The Members toured the R&D Facility and saw what makes up a typical household battery and heard about the ways engineers and scientists adjust battery components to provide even longer lasting power with limited environmental impact.
“Duracell has made several capital commitments to Connecticut over the years and we are proud that they have chosen to continue their operations here in our state,” said Senator Toni Boucher. “Not only does this company produce the batteries that run everything from toys to tools, but it does so in a way that reduces environmental impact. It is great employers like Duracell that help to make the quality of life in Bethel and the surrounding area so high. I applaud them for being good corporate citizens and supporting so many scholarship, internship, and STEM programs. The state should do all it can to create the pro-business environment that will keep great companies like Duracell in CT and allow them to flourish.”
“Duracell continues to be a great example of a Connecticut business being a world-leader in technology and innovation, and we’re proud they call Bethel home,” said Rep. Giegler. “Their commitment to our state goes far beyond their physical location and brings numerous benefits to the community through donations, jobs and volunteerism, among others.”
“As one of the representatives from Bethel, I am so proud to have such a large and reputable company based in our district – as are my constituents, many of whom are employed by Duracell,” said Rep. Harding. “Duracell batteries are trusted for high-priority tools from medical equipment to automobiles and other machinery. The company has also been known to contribute to disaster relief efforts and other philanthropic endeavors. I will work tirelessly to ensure that Duracell and all our local businesses are able to succeed in our State.”
“The departure of GE and other employers underscores the need for all elected officials to take the time to meet with our remaining employers to learn how we can support them and make them part of the solution to our economy woes,” said Rep. Shaban. “Duracell is a first rate company that develops top rate technology to create quality products sold throughout the world. Duracell employs engineers, chemists, support staff and security crews, and is a model Connecticut business. I thank them for having us.”
“It was very informative to see the kind of research and development that is taking place right here in Connecticut, only a few minutes away from my district,” said Rep. Sredzinski. “It’s this type of innovative business that we need to help grow and prosper in our state, and it’s our job as legislators to make Connecticut a friendly place for businesses like Duracell to thrive.”
