H.B. No. 6977, “AN ACT ESTABLISHING QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION, To establish qualifications for the position of Commissioner of Education,” was vetoed by Governor Dannel Malloy on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, a bill that aimed to set a statutory requirement that state education commissioners have a strong classroom background.  This standard is not met by his first commissioner, Stefan Pryor, CT Mirror reports.

See H.B. No. 6977 here.

This veto renews a fight with organized labor. Mark Waxenberg, the executive director of the state’s largest teachers’ union, the Connecticut Education Association (CEA), said he was “stunned” to hear Wednesday that Malloy was vetoing a bill that addressed a conflict that nearly derailed the Democratic governor’s relationship with an important labor constituency during the 2014 election, reports CT Mirror.

The CEA will ask legislative leaders to override the veto.

  1. a 4-letter word constantly….SPCA.(Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) (They also take dogs that are abandoned). I threatened her, to no end. I actually drove her up to the kennels to show her what it would be like to be homeless…..and repeated the 4-letter word. SPCA.She actually improved after that little visit!! I think we both learned a little. Good luck with your "munster". Your Candy is awesome!! I sure hope it finds its' way to my doorstep. hugz, Madge

  2. I think Hubpages will sort some of this mess out… they are trying to fix it. I just don’t agree with one of the things they’re doing to fix it! And on the bright side, also, I’m sure you picked up some tips from the Apprentice Program that are applicable anywhere. Congrats on the Squidoo sales uptick!

  3. Yes, yes, yes, I want to try the Roma! The flavor combination sounds incredible. Although I don’t use a lot of mayo, I have found some that I enjoy (not Miracle Whip). I want to visit Brazil so badly but the funds are still lacking. [Sigh] Some day . . . !

  4. I LOVE the equally-fierce Mama/Writer squash, Lisa! And if you’re diligent in squashing, I’m sure you pull it off, making it one of your labels. I so love your friend’s quote. One to remember and use. Thanks so much for reading and adding to the conversation! (And for sharing on Twitter!)

  5. May 27, 2007 – 7:21 pm Thanks for all the good discussion here, folks. You’re confirming that there’s a real problem here. I wonder … what is it about the real estate industry that attracts these problems of poor web sites, poor SEO, and some sub-standard SEO providers?

  6. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was curious what all is required to get setup? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web savvy so I’m not 100% certain. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kudos

  7. , I too am so proud of your cross country move and all that you’ve done at Brazen in your time there. You are an awesome person with some really creative and innovative ideas, and I know you’ll find somewhere to put those into practice. Good luck with the search, and please let me know if you need anything, for realsies!

  8. I'd add that to avoid having them overcook and getting an ugly dark line around the yolk you should cool them immediately in ice water (if you won't be eating them hot). When I am making lots of hb eggs and want them to peel easily, I steam them for 12 or so minutes and then cool. Steaming them makes them incredibly easy to peel.
