LAS VEGAS, Nev. – A man was arrested in connection with a series of burglaries targeting newly built homes throughout the Las Vegas valley.
The Arrest
Alexander Eduardo Hernandez was arrested on August 7 by Henderson Police Property Detectives. He faces several charges, including residential burglary, attempted theft, possession of a debit/credit card without the owner’s consent, possession of burglary tools, and theft.
Hernandez is believed to be connected to at least 10 burglaries in Henderson, specifically targeting newly built homes in the Cadence Community, as well as additional burglaries within the jurisdiction of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
Burglary Pattern Investigation
Detectives have been investigating a pattern of burglaries since the beginning of the year. The crimes involved the theft of high-end appliances from vacant, newly constructed homes, as per reports.
These appliances, including refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, dryers, and other construction supplies, were taken by the suspects, indicating a targeted effort to steal valuable items from properties under construction.
Search Warrants and Recovery of Stolen Property
On August 13, Henderson detectives, working in collaboration with LVMPD’s Construction Site Theft Unit, served multiple search warrants at several storage units across the valley. During these searches, authorities recovered about $25,000 worth of stolen property, which was linked to the burglaries.
The recovered items included several large appliances and construction materials that were believed to have been stolen from the newly built homes targeted by Hernandez and others.
Charges and Court Appearance
Following his arrest, Hernandez was transported to the Clark County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 27.
Efforts to Combat Construction Site Theft
This string of burglaries highlights the ongoing problem of construction site theft in Las Vegas, where vacant homes and building materials are increasingly targeted. Authorities continue to work with local law enforcement agencies to track down those responsible for such crimes and ensure the return of stolen goods to their rightful owners.
The Importance of Prevention
Homeowners and contractors are urged to secure construction sites and newly built homes to prevent theft. Taking preventive measures like installing security cameras, hiring on-site security personnel, and ensuring all materials are properly secured can help reduce the risk of theft during the building process.
If you have any information related to construction site theft or similar crimes, authorities encourage you to report it to local law enforcement. Your tips could help prevent future burglaries and protect valuable property.
