Sumter, SC — Authorities in Sumter executed a major drug and weapons bust on October 9, seizing a kilo of cocaine, large amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana, firearms, and cash from a local residence.
Joint Operation Leads to Arrests
The operation was carried out by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Sumter Police Department, and the FBI-Columbia Bureau. Officers served a search warrant at a home on Brand Street, where they reportedly discovered:
- Approximately 8 pounds of marijuana
- 1 kilogram of cocaine
- 62 grams of crack cocaine
- 135 grams of methamphetamine
- Two firearms
- $5,600 in cash
Two men at the residence, Perry Sherrod Taft, 65, and Marquis Quintell Durant, 37, were taken into custody at the scene, as per WLTX.
Charges Filed
Perry Sherrod Taft faces charges including:
- Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
- Trafficking crack cocaine (28–100 grams)
- Trafficking cocaine (200–400 grams)
Marquis Quintell Durant faces charges including:
- Trafficking cocaine (more than 400 grams)
- Trafficking crack cocaine (28–100 grams)
- Possession with intent to distribute marijuana
- Possession of a machine gun
- Two counts of felon in possession of a firearm
Authorities continue to investigate the operation and the potential reach of the suspected drug trafficking network.
