This morning, March 28, 2016, at 8:30 a.m., K-9 units from the Bethel CT Police Department and surrounding towns were invited to conduct a safety drill at Bethel High School.  The school was put in a “hold situation” and no one was allowed to leave classrooms or the building, as police K-9 units from Bethel and surrounding towns were permitted to walk the halls with handlers.

This morning, March 28, 2016, at 8:30 a.m., K-9 units from the Bethel CT Police Department and surrounding towns were invited to conduct a safety drill at Bethel High School.  The school was put in a “hold situation” and no one was allowed to leave classrooms or the building, as police K-9 units from Bethel and surrounding towns were permitted to walk the halls with handlers.  The police dogs were focused on locker and bathrooms mostly and did not go into classrooms.  Teachers were allowed to keep teaching during the drill.

Bethel Board of Education Policy #5145.12b states, “When necessary to protect the health and safety of students, employees or property, and for the purpose of detecting the presence of illegal substances or contraband, including alcohol and/or drugs, the Board shall permit the administration to invite law enforcement agencies or other qualified agencies or individuals to search school property with specially trained dogs.”

A notice was issued after the event by Principal Christopher Troetti, Associate Principal Gary M. Lawlor and Assistant Principal Mari Lerz, full letter as follows:

“We are writing this letter to inform you that on Monday, March 28, 2016 at approximately 8:30 a.m. Bethel High School participated in a safety drill. The school was placed in a “hold situation”. Teachers were able to continue teaching, but no one was allowed to leave the classroom or the building. During this drill, we invited K-9 units from the Bethel Police Department and the surrounding towns to walk our hallways. Bethel Board of Education Policy #5145.12b states, “When necessary to protect the health and safety of students, employees or property, and for the purpose of detecting the presence of illegal substances or contraband, including alcohol and/or drugs, the Board shall permit the administration to invite law enforcement agencies or other qualified agencies or individuals to search school property with specially trained dogs.” The K-9 units focused primarily on student lockers and bathrooms. The dogs did not go into classrooms and they did not approach individual students. Like other area schools, Bethel High School employed the use of the specially trained K-9 units to uphold our commitment to a safe and drug-free school.
This is the 3rd time we have invited the K-9 units into the building and to date, we have found no illegal substances.
We would like to thank the entire school community for their partnership and assistance in this drill. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the BHS administrative team.

  833. Hi Ted,Thanks for the comments! Amusingly, my biggest pet peeve right now has to do with comments that are in legacy code that I have been tasked with cleaning up and adding new features too. I’d prefer clear, working unit tests over code comments any day when maintaining code, and I am sure others would too. Which would you prefer? A bunch of outdated code comments that don’t help much or a suite of unit tests/specs that fail if you do something in the code that breaks things? I surely know I would prefer the latter.

Non la voterei nè l’ho mai votata, ma è una che si batte sempre e si batte bene. Forse è per questo che dà fastidio.
