In the jury trial of former Minneapolis MN police officer Derek Chauvin, a jury deliberated and the verdict was read late Tuesday afternoon, finding Chauvin GUILTY of all charges in death of George Floyd.
Charges were: 2nd-degree murder, 3rd degree murder, 2nd degree manslaughter.
Sentencing to come in 8 weeks.
Floyd died last May after a white police officer, Chauvin, held his knee on Floyd’s neck, a 46-year-old black man, for approximately 9 1/2 minutes. The incident caused worldwide protests and violence about racism and police brutality in the United States.
Chauvin faces up to 40 years in prison but could receive a shorter sentence. Three other officers face trial later this year for aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter.
