Grundy Center, IA – Two people, including an Iowa State Patrol trooper, were injured after a high-speed chase ended in a head-on crash this past weekend, authorities reported.
Chase Details
The pursuit began around 9 p.m. Saturday at a local gas station when 24-year-old Cory Devries led police on a chase reaching speeds of over 120 mph.
Approximately nine miles north of Grundy Center near Highway 20, a Black Hawk County deputy deployed stop sticks, flattening three of Devries’ tires. Despite the tire damage, Devries continued driving until he reached Highway 63, where he collided head-on with an Iowa State Patrol vehicle.
Injuries and Medical Response
The trooper involved was transported to a Waterloo hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Cory Devries was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals with serious injuries.
