Indy Man Wanted after High-Speed Mustang Crash; Fled after Reckless Crash

Indianapolis, IN – An arrest warrant has been issued for Shawn Bivens following a high-speed crash on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 465. Court documents reveal that Bivens was allegedly racing his black Ford Mustang at 114 miles per hour before colliding with another driver and fleeing the scene.

Charges Against Bivens

Bivens faces multiple charges, including:

  • Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon (Level 6 Felony)
  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Reckless Driving Causing Bodily Injury (Class A Misdemeanor)

The Crash and Initial Investigation

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Marion County on Thursday, the crash occurred on July 6 near the 51.1 mile marker on I-465 EB.

  • Troopers found an orange Chevrolet Spark resting in a ditch with all-around damage, indicating a rollover crash.
  • Moments later, a black Ford Mustang was located on the right shoulder east of the Chevrolet.
  • Witnesses identified the Mustang as the vehicle responsible, reporting that it cut across lanes and struck the Chevrolet Spark, causing it to spin out of control.
  • The Chevrolet driver suffered injuries to her upper left arm, while a passenger sustained neck and lower back injuries.

Connection to Street Racing Group

Investigators discovered that Bivens may be linked to the “Sacred Society”, a group reportedly involved in street takeovers in Indianapolis. Court documents noted a Sacred Society sticker on the Mustang, corroborating other intelligence connecting Bivens to organized street racing.

The crash occurred just minutes after officers attempted to stop Bivens near Raymond Street and Pleasant Run Parkway, prompting him to flee at high speeds through residential neighborhoods, including blowing a red light.

Vehicle Data Confirms Reckless Driving

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the Mustang’s airbag control module, which revealed:

  • The Mustang was traveling 108.7 mph five seconds before the crash.
  • Brake was not applied in the moments leading up to the crash.
  • Speed peaked at 114.4 mph 2.5 seconds before the collision.

Additionally, a digital scale with plant material was found in the Mustang during a prior search, according to reports.

Social Media Evidence

Investigators used Bivens’ Instagram account to gather further evidence. According to court documents, Bivens allegedly admitted involvement in the crash and his subsequent attempt to report the Mustang as stolen to avoid prosecution. Some messages included:

  • “Highway got clogged up hit a car.”
  • “I did a hit and run.”
  • “Nah I reported it stolen before the night even ended had my mom as alibi got different alibis no warrant yet.”

Arrest Warrant Details

On July 17, detectives contacted Bivens by phone, during which he claimed the Mustang had been stolen from a residence on Winding Hart Drive.

The Marion Superior Court 35 issued an arrest warrant for Bivens on Thursday. Conditions of the warrant include:

  • No bond will be set until his initial hearing
  • Cash bond of $2,000 will be established afterward
