MCHENRY COUNTY, Ill. – A tragic accident occurred on Monday night in unincorporated Marengo, resulting in the death of a woman after the car she was in crashed into a house and caught fire, authorities confirmed.
Emergency Response to the Crash
According to the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts, crews were dispatched around 8:58 p.m. to the 22800 block of River Road for a report of a vehicle crash with individuals trapped inside.
While en route, dispatchers reported that the car was on fire and resting against a residential home, with a woman still trapped inside. Police officers were first to arrive and attempted to slow the flames using fire extinguishers but were unable to control the blaze.
Firefighters arrived shortly after and found a small sedan fully engulfed in flames and the home’s siding beginning to melt. Crews extinguished the fire within minutes, but sadly, the woman inside the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Victim and Injuries
A man who was also inside the car managed to escape prior to the fire. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with moderate, non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the woman killed in the crash, as per Fox Chicago.

At this time, it remains unclear how the vehicle left the roadway and struck the house. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and speak with witnesses to determine the cause of the crash.
