Illegal Immigrant Truck Driver Arrested After Fatal U-Turn Crash in Florida, Faces Deportation

Fort Pierce, FL — A deadly crash on the Florida Turnpike has left three people dead after an illegal immigrant truck driver allegedly attempted an unauthorized U-turn while operating a commercial semi-truck.

Driver Identified and Charged

The driver, Harjinder Singh, who reportedly entered the U.S. illegally in 2018 and obtained a commercial driver’s license in California, has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide. He remains in custody on both state charges and immigration violations, with an ICE detainer issued, according to the Official White House Rapid Response account.

Fatal Crash Details

Authorities said Singh was driving a commercial semi-truck with trailer on the Florida Turnpike in Fort Pierce when he allegedly attempted a U-turn in an unauthorized area. The trailer jackknifed and struck a minivan, killing all three passengers inside.

“The actions taken by the defendant while operating a commercial tractor-trailer are both shocking and criminal,” said FLHSMV Executive Director Dave Kerner. “Three people lost their lives as a result of his recklessness, and countless friends and family members will experience the pain of their loss forever.”

Statements From Officials

White House Spokeswoman Abigail Jackson called the incident a “devastating tragedy made even worse by the fact that it was totally preventable.” She added, “Illegal aliens that have no legal right to be in our country certainly should not be granted commercial drivers’ licenses.”

Jackson also criticized policies that allow illegal immigrants access to licenses, stating, “Gavin Newscum’s pro-illegal alien policies have deadly consequences. Yet he continues to double down and put illegals over American citizens.”

Legal Context

A 2013 California law permits residents to obtain a driver’s license regardless of immigration status, which enabled Singh to legally operate a commercial vehicle in the state prior to moving to Florida.

Public Safety Reminder

  • Authorities urge drivers to follow all traffic and commercial vehicle regulations, especially regarding U-turns and highway maneuvers.
  • Illegal immigration enforcement may intersect with public safety when drivers operate commercial vehicles without proper authorization.
