There was a social media frenzy over this past weekend about possible illegal, unvacinated immigrants arriving at Westchester County Airport, that was actually a federal operation.
The story was broken by @RobAstorino on Twitter.
Former Westchester County Executive and gubernatorial hopeful Rob Astorino wrote on his Twitter feed:
“Hundreds of undocumented immigrants from [the] crisis at [the] border flown in on several nights. Why was this a secret? Where are they being resettled? Who is paying? Have they been tested for COVID?”
Astorino says that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has been flying hundreds of undocumented immigrants into Westchester County Airport,” the Bronx News 12 reports.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services “has authorized inbound flights into the [Westchester] county airport,” according to County Executive George Latimer, “without informing him,” the Bronx News 12 reports. “Latimer says the flights are part of their nationwide operations, and he just learned about this roughly 48 hours ago.”
“Latimer, a Democrat, said the HHS operations, under its Office of Refugee Resettlement, were not specific to the county, but rather part of the Biden administration’s efforts to reunify separated children under the age of 18. They would be reunited with families, or placed in foster care or shelters, he added, although he didn’t specify his source,” reports Lohud.
A statement was released today from Assemblyman and NY-18 Congressional candidate Colin Schmitt (R):
“It has been confirmed that the Biden Administration has been sending flights carrying illegal aliens who were detained crossing our southern border to the Westchester County Airport. This occurred without notice to the public or county officials. As a Member of Congress representing Westchester County and the Hudson Valley in the U.S. House of Representatives, Sean Patrick Maloney allowed this to happen and concealed it from his own constituents. This is fundamentally wrong and sending these detainees to be released in our communities during the COVID-19 pandemic represents a clear threat to the health and safety of our region.”
“The immigrants were taken from private flights and placed on buses, with anyone eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine getting one. It is not clear how many flights have come into Westchester,” reports the Daily Voice.
