Human Remains Found in Alabama Identified as Missing Texas Man, Officials Say

Cleburne County, AL — Authorities have confirmed that human remains discovered in June 2024 in a wooded area off Interstate 20 belong to a Texas man who went missing in late 2022.

Remains Found Near I-20 in June

According to the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of possible human remains on June 22 near the 194-mile marker on I-20. Upon arrival, they confirmed the discovery. At that time, investigators noted no signs of foul play.

More than a month later, on Wednesday, August 6, the sheriff’s office announced the remains were identified as Peter Alexander Robinson, of Austin, Texas. Robinson had been reported missing in December 2022, and the vehicle he was driving had been towed from the same stretch of Interstate 20 in January 2023, officials said in a statement to People.

Forensic Testing Confirms Identity

The remains were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science, where experts obtained Robinson’s dental records.

“After conducting a thorough forensic analysis (including both dental and DNA comparisons) the Medical Examiner officially confirmed the human remains located at the scene belonged to Peter Alexander Robinson,” the sheriff’s office said.

Robinson’s family was promptly notified after the confirmation.

Mental Health Concerns Cited

Authorities noted that Robinson may have been experiencing a mental health crisis at the time he disappeared. His exact cause of death has not yet been released.

Sheriff Jon Daniel stressed the importance of mental health awareness:

“We want to take this moment to remind everyone that mental health struggles are real and can affect anyone. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out. Help is available.”

The sheriff’s office credited the observant individual who contacted law enforcement upon finding the remains. They also thanked multiple agencies involved in the case.
