HOUSTON, Texas — A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody Thursday night after opening fire inside a Sharpstown apartment, prompting a tense SWAT standoff that ended without any serious injuries.
Shooting at Harbor Town Apartments
The incident occurred at the Harbor Town apartment complex near Beechnut Street in southwest Houston around 8:30 p.m. Houston Police Department (HPD) officers responded quickly after reports of gunfire inside the building.
Upon arrival, officers found a woman outside the building who had jumped from a second-floor balcony to escape the shooting. She was transported to a local hospital with injuries sustained from the fall. The woman is the mother of two young girls who were still inside the apartment at the time.

After ensuring the immediate safety of civilians outside, officers established a perimeter around the apartment. Houston Fire Department crews assisted by using ladders to rescue two women from a second-floor window.
When officers approached the apartment and attempted to make contact, the teen fired at them. A nine-year veteran officer returned fire, but the suspect was not struck.
Teen Surrenders
SWAT and K-9 units were deployed, and negotiators engaged the suspect. After a brief standoff, the teen surrendered peacefully. He was taken by ambulance to receive treatment for a cut on his hand. No officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire, as per Click2Houston.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the teen’s actions. The Houston Police Department continues to investigate the shooting, and additional details about the incident may emerge in the coming days.
