Houston, Texas – Southeast Texas residents are in for a dramatic cooldown after a warm and humid weekend, with overnight lows in the upper-60s and daytime highs in the lower-80s giving way to temperatures in the 50s by early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
Warm and Humid Conditions Persist
Tonight, Houston is expected to remain 10-15 degrees above seasonal averages, with overnight lows holding in the upper-60s. Patchy dense fog is forecast between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m., potentially reducing visibility for early morning commuters. Residents are advised to exercise caution while traveling during these hours.
The weekend forecast calls for continued warm and humid conditions, with highs reaching the lower-80s on both Saturday and Sunday. Coastal areas may experience dense sea fog, persisting through much of the morning and possibly lingering into the afternoon.
Cold Front Brings Major Temperature Drop
A strong cold front is expected to move through Southeast Texas late Sunday night, bringing with it a chance of showers early Monday morning. More importantly, the front will cause a significant temperature drop, ending the streak of unseasonably warm weather.
Daytime highs will fall from the lower-80s this weekend to the 50s as the week begins. Morning lows are forecast to dip into the 30s on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the possibility of a light freeze in some areas, especially in inland locations.
“It’s about time for a cooldown after these unusually warm days,” meteorologists said, noting that this front will provide a much-needed break from above-average temperatures.
Short-Lived Cool Down

Despite the significant drop, forecasters caution that the cool weather will be brief. By the start of 2026, temperatures are expected to rebound into the 70s, though still below the recent 80-degree highs. Skies are expected to remain mostly clear, with minimal precipitation following the passage of the front.
Safety and Preparation
Meteorologists advise residents to prepare for colder mornings, particularly for children, pets, and outdoor plants that could be affected by the low temperatures. Travelers are also urged to remain cautious during periods of dense fog this weekend, especially along coastal and low-lying areas.
The front is expected to provide a refreshing break from the unseasonably warm weather while also signaling the beginning of cooler winter conditions across Southeast Texas.
