Houston, TX — A Houston man is facing multiple felony charges after a disturbing video surfaced showing him violently abusing a 9-month-old Labrador mix, authorities confirmed on Thursday.
Graphic Video Leads to Arrest
According to Harris County Precinct 1 Constables, Gerald Allen Young II was arrested after graphic video footage captured him repeatedly punching the young dog before lifting and violently throwing the animal down a hallway. The incident took place in the 2600 block of Gramercy Street in southwest Houston.
Constables described the video as “deeply disturbing”, prompting immediate action from investigators who identified and apprehended Young. He is now charged with two counts of felony cruelty to a non-livestock animal by means of torture.
Puppy Rescued and Receiving Medical Care
Authorities said the injured Labrador mix was rescued earlier this week and is now receiving urgent medical treatment at the Houston SPCA’s Animal Hospital.
Veterinarians at the Houston SPCA reported that the puppy suffered three fractured ribs and a pneumothorax — a condition where air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall, causing breathing difficulties.
Despite his serious injuries, the dog is now in stable condition and showing signs of recovery under the care of the SPCA’s veterinary team.
SPCA Condemns “Heartbreaking” Animal Abuse
“This is a heartbreaking example of senseless cruelty,” said Dr. Roberta Westbrook, Senior Vice President of Veterinary Services at the Houston SPCA. “There is no doubt that filing a cruelty report saved this young dog’s life.”
The organization praised the community member who reported the abuse and emphasized the importance of speaking up when witnessing animal cruelty.
Court Hearing Set for Next Week
A court date has been scheduled for next week, during which a judge will determine custody of the Labrador mix, according to Click2Houston. The Houston SPCA plans to advocate for the dog’s continued care and eventual adoption into a safe, loving home once he has fully recovered.
