Killeen, TX – Killeen police arrested an armed suspect late Thursday night following an hours-long search that began after the man allegedly shot at a state trooper during a vehicle chase.
Incident Timeline
The situation unfolded around 4 p.m. Thursday, when police received information on the last known location of Jonathan David Burr. Killeen Police Chief Pedro Lopez stated that Burr was wanted for theft, aggravated assault, and evading police over the past several weeks.
When officers approached Burr, he fled in his vehicle, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, Burr fired at a Department of Public Safety trooper, striking the officer’s windshield. He then crashed his car in the 1600 block of Cedar Lane and fled on foot.
Police Search and Public Alerts
By 7 p.m. Thursday, authorities believed Burr was hiding in the 1800 block of Cedar Lane. Police continued their search throughout the evening and asked residents to stay indoors and avoid the area.
The department issued an initial alert on social media at 4:47 p.m., warning that the suspect was armed and dangerous, as per the reports.
Arrest of Suspect
At 11:08 p.m., police confirmed that Burr had been located and that apprehension was in progress. He was officially arrested at 11:48 p.m. in the 1700 block of Cedarhill Drive.
Authorities stated that there was no longer a threat to the public and thanked the community for their patience and cooperation during the manhunt.
