Vancouver, WA – A hit-and-run crash Wednesday evening left 10 people injured, including one person ejected from their vehicle, as a reckless driver ran a red light, slammed into several cars, and then fled the scene on foot, according to Vancouver police.

Crash Details and Timeline

The collision occurred just after 5:15 p.m. near Mill Plain Boulevard and 160th Avenue, a busy intersection in east Vancouver. Authorities say the unidentified suspect ran a red light, triggering a violent chain reaction involving four vehicles.

“The suspect driver ran a red light and hit multiple vehicles… Suspect fled on foot and we are still attempting to locate him,” said Kim Kapp, spokesperson for the City of Vancouver.

Among the injured:

  • One victim was ejected from their car
  • Two individuals were trapped and had to be freed with electric extrication tools
  • Seven others escaped with assistance or on their own

All 10 were transported to area hospitals, and the severity of their injuries ranged from minor to serious.

Traffic Disruption and Emergency Response

Following the crash, Mill Plain Boulevard was shut down in both directions, with Vancouver Police warning of “significant delays” and urging commuters to use alternate routes. At 6 p.m., police announced the road would remain closed for several hours as the crash investigation unfolded.

The Vancouver Fire Department also responded, providing rescue assistance at the scene as per KOIN.

Ongoing Investigation

As of now, the hit-and-run suspect remains at large. Authorities have not released a description of the individual but confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The Vancouver Police Department continues to urge anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash to come forward.

What to Do in Case of a Major Traffic Collision

Collisions like this are unpredictable but potentially life-threatening. Here’s what to keep in mind if you’re ever caught in a similar situation:

  • Stay calm and call 911 immediately
  • Do not move injured persons unless there is danger
  • Turn on hazard lights to alert other drivers
  • If safe, gather evidence like photos or video
  • Never chase a fleeing suspect — let law enforcement handle it

Additionally, installing a dashcam can be extremely helpful for capturing incidents and providing valuable evidence in hit-and-run cases.
