Rankin County, MS – Authorities in Rankin County have arrested two California residents and recovered over 600 pounds of high-grade marijuana, officials reported. The seizure is considered one of the largest in recent county history, with the estimated street value exceeding one million dollars.
The operation began on Wednesday, when officers with the Puckett Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Suburban traveling along Highway 18. During the stop, officers discovered approximately 120 pounds of high-quality marijuana inside the vehicle.
Investigation Expands
Following the initial traffic stop, the Puckett Police contacted investigators from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office to assist with the case. Authorities quickly developed information indicating that a larger supply of marijuana was being stored and distributed throughout Mississippi.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for a rented warehouse/office near Jackson International Airport, which was executed early Friday morning. A thorough search of the facility revealed around 500 pounds of high-grade marijuana along with a large amount of U.S. currency, indicating ongoing drug trafficking operations.
Suspects Taken Into Custody
Two suspects, Karissa Renee McDonald, 23, and Jose De Jesus Vasquez Estrada, 26, both from California, were arrested in connection with the case. Both have been charged with trafficking a Schedule I controlled substance.
The District Attorney’s Office announced that the defendants will appear before Rankin County Court Judge David Morrow for their Initial Appearance. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests are anticipated as the case develops.
