PHOENIX, Arizona – Hurricane Priscilla is expected to bring heavy rain and flooding to parts of Arizona this week, with a flood watch in effect for northern Arizona from Thursday through Saturday.
Today’s Forecast
On Wednesday, Phoenix is seeing warmer than average temperatures, with a high of 100 degrees, compared to the usual 92 degrees. Partly cloudy skies are expected throughout the day.
Eastern Arizona experienced showers and thunderstorms earlier in the day, which are expected to clear by midnight. However, additional rain will move in from the south after midnight.
Tomorrow’s Weather
On Thursday, scattered showers and weak thunderstorms will move north into the state early in the morning. Rain will continue on and off throughout the day and evening.
Temperatures will start around 79 degrees Thursday morning and rise to 93 degrees Thursday afternoon. Residents are advised to carry a rain jacket or umbrella if heading out, as per reports by Fox Phoenix.
Rain Continues Through the Weekend

Rain is expected to persist across Arizona from Friday into the weekend, with occasional heavy pockets of rainfall. The most widespread rain is expected Saturday into Sunday, particularly in southeastern Arizona.
A flood watch remains in effect for the Valley, southern deserts, Superstitions, Globe, and New River areas from Friday through Saturday. Residents should prepare for potential flooding of rivers, creeks, low-lying areas, urban areas with poor drainage, and low water crossings.
Hurricane Priscilla’s Impact
The heavy rain is due to tropical moisture from Hurricane Priscilla being driven into Arizona. Early showers from Wednesday through Friday are linked to moisture building ahead of Priscilla’s center, while the center’s remnant moisture is expected to increase rain chances this weekend.
Meteorologists warn that an additional tropical system, potentially named, could follow a similar path and bring more rain early next week (Monday-Tuesday).
This prolonged rainfall brings the risk of flash flooding, with southern Arizona possibly experiencing the heaviest totals (over 2-3 inches). The exact track of Priscilla will determine the most affected areas.
Stay Prepared
Residents across Arizona are advised to monitor weather updates, avoid low-lying and flood-prone areas, and take precautions for potential flash flooding.
