Des Moines, IA – Iowa is bracing for extreme heat this weekend, with a heat advisory in effect for several counties on Saturday from noon to 8 p.m..
The advisory affects the following counties:
Audubon, Boone, Calhoun, Carroll, Crawford, Dallas, Greene, Grundy, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hardin, Humboldt, Jasper, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Polk, Poweshiek, Sac, Story, Tama, Wapello, Warren, Webster, and Wright.
Full Weekend Forecast: Extreme Heat Ahead
Once storms clear out this evening, quiet conditions are expected, but hot and humid weather will remain in the metro area. Temperatures will remain near 90°F through sunset, cooling only to the lower 80s by 10 p.m. Overnight lows will stay uncomfortably warm, only dipping into the mid-70s for Saturday morning.
Saturday and Sunday are designated as Weather Impact days, as very hot and humid conditions will cause heat index values to soar to around 105°F during the afternoons, according to KCCI.
Anyone planning to spend time outdoors is urged to prepare for the extreme heat by drinking plenty of water and finding ways to cool down. Taking breaks in the shade or air conditioning is highly recommended to avoid heat exhaustion.
