(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to remain lowered at half-staff on Friday, May 15, 2020 in recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day. Flags are also currently at half-staff in recognition and mourning of all those who have lost their lives and been affected by COVID-19.
Peace Officers Memorial Day is a national observance paying tribute to local, state, and federal law enforcement officials who have died in the line of duty. It is recognized annually during National Police Week.

“More now than ever, everyone is witnessing the essential role that law enforcement has in our communities,” Governor Lamont said. “There are no days off or holidays for law enforcement – they work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and oftentimes put their own lives in danger to protect the lives of complete strangers. Their commitment to public safety is to be commended, and we thank them for everything they sacrifice in the course of their duties. We especially must continue to show our respect to the families of law enforcement, who make many sacrifices over the course of their loved one’s call to service. We salute every officer who has given his or her life in the line of duty – their memories will never be forgotten, and we thank them tremendously.”
