Georgia – The Georgia Department of Public Safety and the Department of Natural Resources have released updated figures on road and water safety incidents during the holiday weekend. The numbers, reported as of Saturday night, highlight both law enforcement activity and community safety concerns statewide.
Arrests and Citations on the Roads
According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), troopers arrested 254 people for driving under the influence (DUI) so far this weekend. In addition:
- 221 drivers were cited for distracted driving.
- 357 citations were issued for seat belt violations.
Troopers also responded to 108 crashes, which resulted in three deaths and 35 injuries. According to reports from FoxAtlanta, investigators confirmed that 15 crashes involved impaired drivers, while five crashes involved commercial vehicles.
Water Safety Incidents
On Georgia’s waterways, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reported seven boating under the influence (BUI) arrests as of 11:59 p.m. Saturday. Fortunately, officials stated that there were no boating-related injuries or fatalities during this reporting period.
Of the BUI arrests:
- Four occurred on Lake Lanier.
- One occurred on Lake Allatoona.
- One occurred on Lake Sinclair.
