Report by Paula Antolini, November 9, 2020, 5:22PM EDT

Message from the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department:

Busy day for the members of the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department.

This morning we put out a car fire on Route 7 in Wilton. And around 12:24 this afternoon we were toned out for a brush fire on Beeholm Rd. in Redding. Georgetown Engine 2 and Tanker 3 responded. Upon arrival Engine 2 found a fully involved barn fire with a brush fire approaching 2 nearby homes.

Mutual aid was activated from West Redding Volunteer Fire Department, Redding Fire & EMS Company #1, Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department, Bethel Fire & EMS, and Weston Volunteer Fire Department.

Engine 2’s crew stretched a line to knock down the barn fire and another line to stop the brush fire that was approaching one house, while other members used fire extinguishers and rakes to stop the spread of the brush fire that was approaching another house and starting to catch the back porch on fire.

The barn was a total loss but thanks to quick action from firefighters both houses were saved.
