Fruita Man Arrested Again Just Three Days After Assault Charge

Fruita, CO — A 47-year-old man from Fruita is back in custody only three days after being charged with assault in a prior incident at the same location. Authorities say Aaron Ilg was arrested Saturday following a hit-and-run and attempted vehicular assault that violated an existing protection order.

Arrest Comes Days After Initial Release

According to the Fruita Police Department, Ilg was first arrested on Wednesday for assault and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility. He was later released on bond. However, officers were called back to the same location on Saturday, after reports of a vehicle ramming incident involving Ilg.

Investigators allege that Ilg rammed his vehicle into an occupied car and fled the scene before police arrived. The collision caused significant concern, as it occurred just days after his earlier arrest.

“From the investigation, officers obtained a warrant for Ilg’s arrest on several felony and misdemeanor charges,” police said.

According to Western Slope Now, officers executed the arrest warrant at Ilg’s home later that day.

Arrest and Charges Filed

When police arrived at his residence, they used multiple loud hails to order Ilg out of his apartment. He eventually complied and was taken into custody without incident, officials said.

Ilg now faces a combination of felony and misdemeanor charges, including:

  • Retaliation against a witness or victim
  • Two counts of attempted vehicular assault
  • Violation of a protection order
  • Two counts of reckless driving
  • Hit and run

He was booked back into the Mesa County Detention Facility, where he remains in custody.

Community Concerns and Repeat Offender Patterns

The rapid turnaround between Ilg’s release and re-arrest has raised concerns among Fruita residents and local officials. Many have questioned how a suspect with a recent assault charge was able to return so quickly to the same location where violence had already occurred.

“This case underscores the challenges police face when individuals reoffend shortly after being released,” one Fruita official noted.

Authorities have not released information on the condition of the vehicle’s occupants, though no serious injuries have been reported at this time.

Ongoing Investigation

The Fruita Police Department continues to investigate the incident and has not ruled out the possibility of additional charges. Officers also confirmed that the protection order in place during both incidents was intended to prevent contact between Ilg and the original victim.

Local officials have urged the public to report any violations of restraining or protection orders immediately to law enforcement, emphasizing that swift reporting can prevent escalation in domestic or repeat-offender cases.
