Indianapolis, Indiana — FreshRealm, a leading food production company, has informed the Indiana Department of Workforce Development of its plan to permanently close its Indianapolis facility at 3120 Post Road. The closure is scheduled for January 31, 2026, and will result in the layoff of 148 employees, according to a WARN Notice posted on December 2.

Additionally, another 20 employees will see their employment end on or after March 20, 2026. The facility will continue normal operations until its official closure date.

Company Statement on Layoffs

A FreshRealm spokesperson described the layoffs as a “business decision” intended to streamline operations. The company specializes in providing fresh food solutions and operates as a “food-as-a-service” provider.

The full statement from FreshRealm reads:

“We made the business decision to close our Indianapolis, Indiana, facility. After careful review, we determined that streamlining operations to other FreshRealm facilities will allow us to meet demand for our products more efficiently. We are grateful to all Indianapolis-based employees for their contributions to FreshRealm and our customers. We are focused on making this transition as smooth as possible for impacted employees. We are managing the transition in meal production to our other facilities and do not anticipate any service disruption for our customers as a result of the Indianapolis closure.”

WARN Act Investigation Underway

FreshRealm Announces Indianapolis Facility Closure, 148 Employees facing Job Cuts

Following the announcement, Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a Chicago-based law firm, confirmed that it is investigating the layoff to determine whether FreshRealm may have violated the WARN Act. The federal law requires employers to provide at least 60 days’ notice in writing before a mass layoff occurs.

The law firm noted that affected employees may be entitled to 60 days of severance pay and benefits, rather than a one-time lump sum payment, as the company moves forward with the closure.

FreshRealm stated that the transition of production to other facilities is expected to be smooth, and customer service should not be disrupted, as per the reports. Meanwhile, the affected employees and their advocates await the outcome of the WARN Act investigation to ensure all legal rights are upheld.
