PRESS RELEASE

Bethel, CT — Former State Representative William Duff has announced his candidacy for State Senate in the 26th District representing Bethel, New Canaan, Redding, Ridgefield, Weston, Westport and Wilton.

Will Duff grew up in Bethel, attending Bethel schools and living and working in town for all of his life. Will Duff has served the community for decades through several elected positions including the Board of Selectman, Board of Education, Board of Assessment Appeals, Town Constable and most recently as the State Representative for the 2nd district.

“It was an honor and a privilege to have served in the State Legislature, and now I look forward to serving the people of the 26th district as its next State Senator. I have fought against wasteful spending and tax increases for three decades. I spent the first two years as a state representative fighting potential tax increases like the mileage tax, the cell phone tax and toll proposals put forward by the Democrat party, while advocating for tax relief. I ran on eliminating the state tax on pensions and Social Security for our retirees and the bill was passed. We need a State Senator that understands the out-of-control spending has to stop NOW.  Businesses are leaving Connecticut because they can no longer afford to operate. The Democratic policy of taxing our way to prosperity has been proven to be a huge failure. I will fight to stop the wasteful spending and restore fiscal responsibility. ”

While in the legislature and working together as a team, we made significant progress on some of the issues that I am committed to working on:

  • Proposing the elimination of the state tax on pensions and Social Security. We were able to have our voices heard and now as part of the state budget passed in 2017, taxes on your pension and Social Security payments will now be phased out.
  • I will fight for greater local control of education and land use and oppose forced regionalization of schools and services
  • Combating Opioid Addiction: Co-sponsored legislation aiming to reduce opioid addiction by placing restrictions on opioid prescriptions and raising awareness to the dangers of opioid addiction.
  • Fight to cut wasteful State spending.
  • Fight to protect a parent’s right to raise their children.
  • Continue the fight to protect State educational funding for our towns

Will Duff has spent decades serving our community and gaining knowledge and experience on how local governments run. It is this vast amount of knowledge and experience that will make him a true advocate for our towns at the State Capitol.
