Florida Man in Batman Pajamas Stops Burglary Suspect in Cape Coral

Cape Coral, FL — Police say a late-night burglary in Cape Coral took an unusual turn when a local resident dressed in Batman pajamas detained the suspect before officers even arrived.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, officers responded to a home in the southeastern part of the city just after 2 a.m. Wednesday for a burglary in progress. But when they got there, the suspect was already being held by a neighbor.

Batman Pajamas Heroics

The neighbor, identified as Kyle Myvett, told police he had been in bed when his home security cameras alerted him to movement outside. The footage showed someone attempting to break into his truck.

Myvett went outside and saw the suspect rummaging through his vehicle before heading into a nearby garage. That’s when he decided to intervene.

“I just saw him and I knew I had to stop him,” Myvett said, according to the police report.

Wearing only Batman pajamas, Myvett detained the suspect until officers arrived on scene.

Suspect Identified as Repeat Offender

The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Justin Schimpl, a name already familiar to local investigators from past cases. Police said Schimpl allegedly stole several items, including:

  • Expensive sunglasses
  • Cash
  • Jewelry
  • More than $500 in gift cards

Detectives told FOX8 that Schimpl was attempting to target vehicles in the area when Myvett caught him in the act.

Arrest and Charges

Schimpl was taken into custody and booked into the Lee County Jail. He now faces charges of burglary and petit theft.

Police credited Myvett’s quick action with preventing further thefts, but also reminded residents to remain cautious and prioritize safety when confronting suspects.

Community Reaction

Neighbors in Cape Coral expressed surprise — and amusement — at the unusual scene. Many praised Myvett for stepping in, even if his attire added a comic-book twist to a real-life crime.

“It may not be Gotham City, but Batman was here in Cape Coral,” one resident joked after hearing about the arrest.

Everyday Heroes

While the incident ended without injuries, police emphasized that such situations can be dangerous. Still, the story highlights how ordinary citizens, even dressed in pajamas, can play a role in protecting their communities.
