Oskaloosa, FL — A loyal dog named Eeyore is being hailed as a hero after helping rescue his 86-year-old owner, who went missing during a short walk near her home late last month.
Authorities say the woman, who often takes her granddog for daily walks, failed to return after 10 to 15 minutes on September 25, prompting her husband to grow concerned and call 911.
Deputy Follows Dog’s Lead
According to ABC News, Deputy Devon Miller from the local sheriff’s office responded to the call and began searching the nearby area. Within minutes, Miller spotted Eeyore standing in the middle of the road — but what happened next was nothing short of remarkable.
“The dog practically dragged me to where she was,” Deputy Miller said, describing how Eeyore led him directly to the woman, who had fallen and was unable to move.
Following the dog’s lead, the deputy discovered the woman lying on the ground in need of medical attention. Paramedics were quickly called to the scene and transported her to a nearby hospital.
‘Grandma Loves You’
From her hospital bed, the woman expressed her gratitude and astonishment that her faithful companion had saved her life.
“You’re such a good boy. Grandma loves you,” she said, smiling as she recalled the emotional rescue.
Authorities praised both Eeyore’s quick instincts and Deputy Miller’s swift response, calling it a perfect example of how “man’s best friend” can make all the difference in an emergency.
A Reminder of the Power of Pets
Stories like Eeyore’s serve as a reminder of the incredible bond between humans and animals, and how pets often step up in moments of crisis. Local officials encouraged residents, especially seniors, to carry a phone or personal alert device when walking alone to ensure safety in case of falls or medical emergencies.
