LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A six-month-long operation culminated in a significant arrest on Tuesday, as Jartavious Coleman, 22, was taken into custody by Lake County deputies in a major drug trafficking bust.
The Investigation
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began after complaints from a concerned citizen alerted authorities to a drug-trafficking organization operating out of the Leesburg area. Undercover detectives eventually identified Coleman as the primary suspect in the operation.
Coleman, who was already on probation for cocaine possession as a drug trafficker, was found to be responsible for distributing illicit narcotics throughout Lake, Sumter, Marion, and Putnam counties.
Search Warrants and Seizure
With the help of the LCSO and Mid-Florida SWAT Teams, detectives executed several search warrants related to the case. As a result of their efforts, authorities seized:
- 2.5 pounds of methamphetamine
- 5 ounces of cocaine
- 1 ounce of fentanyl
- 4 pounds of cannabis
- Several “clandestine” oxycodone pills
- 9 firearms, two of which were stolen from Lake County
ClickOrlando reported that the authorities estimate the street value of the seized drugs to be around $20,000.
Charges Filed Against Coleman
Coleman is facing multiple charges related to the trafficking and possession of controlled substances, including:
- Conspiracy to commit trafficking in methamphetamine over 200 grams
- Trafficking in methamphetamine over 200 grams
- Conspiracy to commit trafficking in cocaine
- Trafficking in methamphetamine over 28 grams (two counts)
- Trafficking in fentanyl over 4 grams (two counts)
- Possession of cocaine with intent to sell
- Sale of cocaine
- Conspiracy to possess buprenorphine (suboxone)
- Possession of property with knowledge it will be used for the sale or trafficking of controlled substances
- Possession of a conveyance with knowledge it will be used for the sale or trafficking of controlled substances
- Possession of methamphetamine
- Unlawful use of a two-way communication device
Court Appearance and No-Bond Status
Given the seriousness of the charges and Coleman’s probation status, he was denied bond during his first court appearance, as ordered by a judge.
Coleman’s court date is set for September 8.
