Orange County, Fla. — A Colombian South American Theft Group accused of burglarizing homes belonging to Asian business owners across Central Florida has been taken down following a joint investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators Track Crew Across Counties
Authorities said the group first appeared on their radar after a major burglary in Hillsborough County. From there, deputies tracked the suspects to Orange and Osceola counties, where coordinated efforts led to the group’s arrest.
“(Hillsborough County deputies) tracked the group to Orange and Osceola counties, where our teams collaborated to bring down this crew,” the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
Thieves Disguised as Landscapers
According to investigators, the suspects spent weeks casing homes and businesses, posing as landscapers to monitor potential victims and learn their routines before striking.
Drone Captures Burglary in Progress
On Monday, two suspects broke into an Orange County home while an OCSO drone hovered above, recording the burglary as it unfolded. Deputies said the footage provided crucial evidence for the operation, as per the reports from ClickOrlando.
Five Suspects Arrested
Following the drone surveillance, deputies executed a coordinated takedown in Osceola County. All five suspects were arrested without incident. They now face multiple charges, including burglary, grand theft, and criminal mischief.
ICE Detainers Issued
Authorities confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers were placed on all suspects after their arrest, indicating possible immigration violations.
