Redstone Township, PA – Authorities have arrested a Pennsylvania couple following the shocking discovery of their five children locked in a filthy, feces-covered “dungeon” inside their home. The children, aged between 5 and 14 years old, were found in deplorable conditions with boarded-up windows, no beds, and surrounded by filth, reportedly trapped for extended periods.
The grim case has raised urgent concerns about child welfare and neglect in the region, prompting a swift response by law enforcement and child protective services.
Horrific Conditions Inside the Home
State troopers discovered the children in a locked bedroom that was described by one officer as a “sickening” dungeon. The room was covered in feces, infested with fleas, and had three deadbolt locks on the outside of the door with no handle, effectively trapping the children inside both day and night.
The parents, James Russell Kahl, 65, and Carly Kahl, 41, allegedly monitored the room through a live video feed, with cameras hardwired to James Kahl’s bedroom. According to authorities, James refused to remove the locks from the door, making the room an inescapable prison for the children.
Investigators additionally found:
- A stun gun and a replica pistol inside the house
- Drugs and drug paraphernalia
- Minimal clothing and food for the children
Allegations and Charges Against the Parents
The criminal complaint revealed troubling allegations that James Kahl smoked marijuana throughout the day and neglected his children’s well-being. Disturbingly, he reportedly instructed the mother to punish one child with a taser gun.
The Kahls have been charged with multiple offenses, including:
- Endangering the welfare of children
- Aggravated assault
- Reckless endangerment
- Drug possession
Both parents were ordered to be held without bail following their arrest.
