Five Arrested in Springfield Park Drug-Dealing Sting; Rifle, Crack Cocaine Recovered

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — A major operation by the Springfield Police Department led to the arrest of five individuals connected to open-air drug dealing and use in Gurdon Bill Park, located near Genesee, Liberty, and Warwick Streets.

Residents had raised ongoing concerns with the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) about illicit activity taking place in the wooded areas of the park. In response, detectives launched a targeted investigation and closely monitored suspicious behavior.

Surveillance Yields Dozens of Drug Deals

Over the course of two surveillance operations, detectives observed numerous suspected drug transactions, with people reportedly buying and using narcotics within the park, often in tents set up in the wooded area near Genesee Street. Authorities noted that approximately two dozen suspected drug deals occurred in just two days.
