Fire Chief Scott Murphy Thanks Many Individuals in Our Bethel Community for Heroic Effort During Recent Downtown Fire

From Fire Chief Scott Murphy:

At 0101 this morning all hell broke loose in Bethel. 182 Greenwood Ave. Originally built in 1840 and renovated several times, called in as working fire confirmed by PD on patrol.

Upon my arrival there was heavy fire on the second floor of the 3 story mixed occupancy structure. I immediately called for a first alarm assignment from Danbury career and Newtown for RIT. Reports of one person still inside.

Retired Bethel firefighter Danny Fredericks Sr., who lives in the building, was awoke by the fire alarm started banging on doors to get the residents out when he came to the area of origin he could not move the resident by himself.

With the help of Bethel Police officers Lynn Morris, Will Holland, and Matt Darego they were able to remove the resident to the awaiting EMS crew who transported him to Danbury Hospital. I thank these hero’s for their efforts.

If not for the help from the following agencies Bethel could have suffered a devastating blow to the economy and to the historic district. So with that said, I would like to thank the following agencies: Bethel Fire Department, Stony Hill Fire Department, Danbury Fire Department career, Danbury Fire Department volunteer Engine 5, Brookfield Fire Department, Candlewood Fire Department New Milford Fire Water Witch Company, West Redding Fire, Redding Ridge Fire, Hawleyville Fire, Dodgingtown Fire, Stevenson Fire, Long Hill Fire out of Trumball, White Hill Fire out of Shelton, WCHN, Paramedic Division, City of Danbury for the extra ambulance to transport if needed, The Town of Bethel for the use of the library for a rehab center so the crews were not out in the humidity trying to cool down and to Rocco’s Deli. Justin came in early and cooked breakfast for us all. If I missed anyone I apologize. Again I thank you all your help was greatly appreciated.
