Father Shoots Son, Kills Wife, Then Himself in Grand Prairie Domestic Incident

Grand Prairie, Texas — A late-night domestic dispute in Grand Prairie ended in tragedy after a father shot his adult son, killed his wife, and then took his own life, according to police. Authorities say the violent confrontation unfolded Sunday night inside a home near Mountain Creek Lake, leaving one family member dead, another injured, and a neighborhood shaken.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. Sunday at a residence in the 1600 block of Avenue B, just west of Mountain Creek Lake. Officers with the Grand Prairie Police Department responded to a reported family violence call involving an armed individual.

Argument Escalates Inside the Home

Investigators said a 62-year-old man was arguing with his wife when their adult son attempted to intervene. During the confrontation, police say the father shot his son in the face. Despite his injuries, the son was able to flee the home and run to a neighbor’s house, where he called 911 for help.

Police said the son is expected to survive his injuries. His condition has not been further detailed, but authorities confirmed he was transported for medical treatment.

After shooting his son, investigators said the suspect went into a bedroom and fatally shot his wife. Her identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.

Officers Encounter Gunfire During Entry

When officers arrived at the scene, they believed the armed suspect was still inside the residence and that his wife might also be inside. Police said they attempted to make contact but were unable to reach the man.

Because of concerns for the woman’s safety, tactical officers forced entry into the home. According to police, officers were immediately met with gunfire upon entering. Officers returned fire as the suspect ran deeper into the house.

Authorities later conducted another entry into the residence. Inside a bedroom, officers found the woman dead from apparent gunshot wounds. In a bathroom, they found the suspect deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Officer Injured, Scene Shows Evidence of Gunfire

During the exchange of gunfire, one officer was hospitalized for minor injuries after being struck by ricochet gunfire, according to police. No other officers were injured.

Investigators noted bullet holes in a vehicle parked in the driveway, underscoring the intensity of the gunfire during the incident. Police said the scene remains under investigation as detectives work to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Independent Investigation Underway

Per department policy, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer-Involved Shooting Team was called to the scene and is conducting an independent investigation into the officers’ actions.

At the same time, the Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards is carrying out a concurrent administrative review, as required in cases involving officer-involved shootings.

Authorities emphasized that both investigations are standard procedure and are intended to ensure transparency and accountability.

Identities Withheld Pending Notification

The identities of the man and woman involved have not yet been released. Police said names will be made public after next of kin have been notified.

Officials have not released details about what sparked the initial argument, nor have they indicated whether there was a prior history of domestic calls at the address. Police said more information is expected as the investigation continues.

A Stark Reminder About Domestic Violence

The incident adds to ongoing concerns about domestic violence incidents escalating into deadly encounters, particularly when firearms are involved. Law enforcement officials often urge families experiencing conflict to seek help before disputes turn violent.

Police did not comment on whether crisis intervention resources had been contacted prior to Sunday night’s events, but reiterated that the situation remains under active review.

Anyone experiencing domestic violence or concerned about escalating family conflict is encouraged to seek immediate help through local authorities or crisis hotlines.

The investigation remains ongoing, and updates are expected as authorities gather additional information.
