Keshena, Wisconsin — A coordinated law enforcement effort has resulted in eight people being taken into custody after a Tuesday search warrant uncovered illegal drugs and firearms on the Menominee Indian Reservation. The operation marks a significant development in an ongoing investigation into narcotics trafficking and weapons possession within the community.
According to a release from the Menominee Tribal Police Department, officers executed the search warrant in the South Branch area, with support from Menominee Tribal Conservation officials and the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office.
Drugs and Firearms Seized During Search
Authorities confirmed that the search led to the seizure of multiple illegal substances—though the exact quantities were not immediately disclosed—and at least two firearms. These items were recovered during a detailed search of the property as part of a broader investigation into suspected criminal activity.
Law enforcement officials noted that the operation was carried out safely and efficiently, with no reported injuries to officers or residents.
Eight Individuals Taken Into Custody
As part of the operation, eight suspects were arrested.
Of those:
- Seven individuals were transported to the Menominee Tribal Jail
- One individual was booked into the Shawano County Jail
Officials have not released the identities of the arrested individuals, nor have they provided specific details on the suspected roles each person may have played in the case.
Charges to Be Referred to Tribal and Federal Prosecutors
Investigators said that a range of charges related to illegal drug possession, drug distribution, and firearm violations will be forwarded to both Tribal and Federal prosecutors for review. The involvement of federal authorities indicates the seriousness of the offenses and the potential for significant penalties.
At this time, officials have declined to release additional information, noting that the investigation is active and ongoing.
Law Enforcement Emphasizes Community Safety
The Menominee Tribal Police Department emphasized that protecting the safety and well-being of community members remains a top priority. Joint operations like this one, involving multiple agencies, are increasingly used to combat drug trafficking and illegal weapons on Tribal lands.
With several agencies working together and charges pending review, more details are expected in the coming days or weeks. Officials urge community members to remain patient and allow the judicial process to unfold.
