Lucerne Valley, CA — A new egg recall has been issued for consumers in California and Nevada after the FDA linked 92 illnesses to Salmonella contamination. Country Eggs, LLC announced it is recalling its Large Brown Cage-Free “Sunshine Yolks” and several related retail brands.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed the bacteria’s presence in eggs distributed under multiple brand names, prompting an urgent advisory for shoppers to check their refrigerators immediately.

Brands and Dates Affected

According to Yahoo News, the recalled products were distributed in both California and Nevada to grocery stores and foodservice distributors.

The recall includes cartons with sell-by dates from July 1 through September 18, 2025, under the following brand names:

  • Nagatoshi Produce (CA 7695)
  • Misuho (CA 7695)
  • Nijiya Markets (CA 7695)
  • Golden Yolk (Omega-3, Cage-Free)
  • Country Eggs “Sunshine Yolks” (bulk foodservice packs)

“Production of the affected eggs has been suspended while the investigation continues,” the FDA confirmed in its notice.

Background: A Troubled Year for Egg Safety

This latest recall follows a series of nationwide salmonella outbreaks that have plagued the egg industry in 2025. In June, regulators expanded a recall to 1.7 million dozen eggs, and within days, another 20 million eggs were pulled from shelves nationwide.

By mid-July, the CDC confirmed clusters of restaurant-linked illnesses and even one death, leading to the FDA upgrading the risk to Class I, the most serious level of recall.

“This latest alert underscores the ongoing risks in the national egg supply chain,” consumer advocates warned, citing gaps in contamination prevention measures.

Health Risks of Salmonella

The FDA reports that 92 people have fallen ill after consuming the recalled eggs, though no deaths have been reported so far.

Symptoms of Salmonella infection typically include:

  • Fever and chills
  • Diarrhea or abdominal cramps
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Headache and fatigue

In severe cases, the infection can spread beyond the digestive system and lead to life-threatening complications such as endocarditis or arthritis, particularly among children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems.

What Consumers Should Do

Shoppers are urged to stop using the affected eggs immediately and check their packaging for the listed brands and sell-by dates. The FDA’s official guidance includes the following recommendations:

  • Do not consume the recalled eggs.
  • Return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund, or safely dispose of them immediately.
  • Clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that may have come in contact with the eggs.
  • Monitor for symptoms of Salmonella if the product was consumed and contact a healthcare provider if illness develops.

A Growing Consumer Concern

With recurring recalls and confirmed outbreaks, consumers are becoming increasingly cautious about egg safety. Experts say the continued detection of Salmonella in supply chains could lead to price increases and stricter federal oversight as the industry works to regain public trust.

“This latest recall is another reminder that even trusted grocery brands can be impacted when contamination prevention fails,” food safety analyst Maria Thompson told reporters.

For now, regulators advise all shoppers in California and Nevada to check their cartons closely before using or discard them altogether.
