Bourne, MA – A high-speed chase on Cape Cod ended in a serious crash on Thursday morning, leaving a driver in his 20s seriously injured and prompting an ongoing investigation by the Massachusetts State Police.
The chase, which began after a collision, created a dangerous situation for multiple drivers along Route 6 and surrounding roads.
Initial Crash on Route 132
According to authorities, Barnstable Police notified Massachusetts State Police just before 11:30 a.m. that a Ford F150 pickup truck had been involved in a two-car collision on Route 132.
The driver of the F150 fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving authorities to pursue him. Officials did not disclose whether anyone sustained injuries in that initial collision.
Dangerous Pursuit on Route 6
After fleeing Route 132, the suspect sped onto Route 6 west, reportedly reaching speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.
State Police said the driver swerved in and out of traffic, sometimes traveling in the breakdown lane, creating a highly dangerous situation for other drivers on the highway. Troopers quickly moved into position further down the road in an attempt to safely end the pursuit using stop sticks.
Crash and Stop Sticks Deployment
At approximately 11:31 a.m., the F150 swerved into another vehicle while continuing to evade police. Following the crash, troopers deployed stop sticks, effectively bringing the chase to an end and preventing further risk to motorists in the area.
Serious Injuries Reported
The driver of the F150, a man in his 20s, was seriously injured in the crash. According to reports, he was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford for treatment. At this time, police have not released his name or detailed the exact nature of his injuries.
Officials also have not confirmed any injuries to the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash.
