Atlanta, GA – A high-speed pursuit in Cobb County ended tragically Thursday morning when a driver died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after fleeing Georgia State Patrol (GSP) troopers near Truist Park, authorities said.
Traffic Stop Turns Into Chase
At approximately 11:42 a.m., a GSP trooper pulled over a black Honda Civic for a window tint violation. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the driver sped away immediately after the trooper approached the vehicle.
The pursuit continued south on Cobb Parkway, with troopers following the Honda as it navigated through traffic. When traffic forced the driver to slow, a trooper positioned a patrol vehicle to block the Honda from the front.
Suspect Dies at the Scene
Once the vehicle came to a stop, troopers approached the car and discovered the driver dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, GSP confirmed.
The identity of the driver has not been released, and investigators are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Responds
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. In the meantime, all southbound lanes of Cobb Parkway at Spring Road/Circle 75 Parkway remain closed as law enforcement completes their work.
