Berlin, Germany — A motorist was clocked racing down a section of the A2 Autobahn at an astonishing 321 kilometers per hour (199 mph), far exceeding the posted speed limit and setting what authorities call the highest recorded speed ever captured by a radar trailer on that stretch.
Caught on Radar at Over 124 MPH Above the Limit
The speeding incident occurred on July 28 near Burg, a town west of Berlin. A roadside radar trailer, known in Germany as an “Enforcement Trailer,” picked up the motorist during a routine traffic check.
“A reading from its display showed the highest record speed of 321 kph,” the Magdeburg police office confirmed Tuesday.
The stretch of the A2 where the driver was caught has a posted limit of 120 kph (74.5 mph). That means the motorist was going more than 124 mph over the speed limit — a staggering and dangerous offense by any global standard.
Penalties Imposed by Authorities
Although the driver’s name has not been released, police say the penalties have been enforced:
- €900 fine (roughly $1,043)
- Three-month driving ban
- Two points removed from the driver’s license
Germany’s points-based system tracks repeat offenders and escalates consequences based on accumulated infractions.
“The motorist is now prohibited from driving for three months,” authorities said in the press release.
