Elkhart County, IN – A high-speed chase spanning four Indiana counties came to a dramatic end Thursday after the Indiana State Police successfully stopped a Kia driver fleeing from law enforcement, authorities said.

The pursuit began Thursday morning when a State Trooper spotted a Kia speeding on the Indiana Toll Road. When police activated their lights, the driver allegedly accelerated in an attempt to escape, setting off a high-speed chase that spanned St. Joseph, LaPorte, Porter, and Elkhart counties.
The vehicle navigated around stop sticks, exited the toll road, and traveled along SR 421 and SR 49, ignoring traffic signals and weaving through busy intersections, endangering motorists along the way.
The chase reached speeds of up to 120 mph, particularly near the Portage Barrier Toll Plaza in Porter County, as the driver repeatedly attempted to evade police. Troopers successfully deployed stop sticks, flattening the passenger-side tires, but the Kia continued briefly before finally veering into a ditch, bringing the dangerous pursuit to an end.
Driver Identified and Charges Filed
Authorities identified the driver as 28-year-old Daniyal Zaidi of Jamaica, New York. He was taken into custody at the Elkhart County Jail, as per WANE. He faces charges of Resisting Law Enforcement and Reckless Driving. Officials noted that the coordinated efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies were crucial in safely ending the pursuit without injuries to other motorists or officers.
