David McDowell, previously arrested on August 24, 2019 for the fatal stabbing of a young woman in a home on Plumtrees Road in Bethel (police have not released victim’s name) was found by Bridgeport Correctional Center officers about 1:50 p.m. Tuesday to have taken his own life in his prison cell in Bridgeport, reports the Hartford Courant. He was alone in his cell at the time.
Medics and firefighters were unable to revive McDowell and he was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 2:39 p.m., reports the Courant.
The fatal stabbing of the woman is considered to be an act of act of domestic violence, according to police. Soon after the stabbing incident McDowell walked to the Bethel Police Station and turned himself in and was arrested, charged with first-degree manslaughter, and held on $1 million bail.
An investigation is now ongoing by the Department of Correction.
