Davenport, IA — A 39-year-old Davenport man is facing several serious charges after police say he struck a squad car during a traffic stop, sparking a high-speed chase that reached 87 mph on Sunday night.
Incident During Traffic Stop
Authorities reported that Jeffery Brown, 39, backed his car into a police squad car while officers were conducting a traffic stop on East Kimberly Road. Following the collision, Brown sped away, ignoring repeated orders to stop, according to court documents.
During the chase, police noted that Brown ran a red light at Jersey Ridge Road and 46th Street while officers pursued him at speeds up to 87 mph.
Foot Chase and Arrest
After stopping his vehicle, Brown fled on foot, ignoring commands from officers. Police said he resisted arrest, attempting to pull away and run from the scene before being taken into custody.
Evidence Recovered
Officers recovered 7.63 grams of cocaine and an open container of Fireball on the driver’s side floorboard of Brown’s vehicle, as per KWQC.
Charges Filed
Brown faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including:
- Felony assault on persons in certain occupations, use or display of a weapon
- Felony eluding, speeding more than 25 mph over the limit
- Felony possession of a controlled substance, 3rd or subsequent offense
- Driving while license was denied, suspended, cancelled, or revoked
- Interference with official acts
- Turning at an intersection violation
- Failure to provide proof of financial liability, accident
- Fail to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way
- Open container, driver 21 years old and older
Court and Bond Information
Brown is being held at the Scott County Jail on a $10,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 7.
