Danbury Police Activities League Expanding Programs Based on Community Feedback
This summer the Danbury Police Activities League (PAL) surveyed over 500 local families in an effort to see what programs are most needed for their children. The feedback from this needs assessment was the catalyst for the addition and expansion of some new program and the Danbury PAL.
PALs new Executive Director, Maura Keenan, said “As a leader in local youth programming, we want to continue to grow and expand to meet the areas identified needs. We want to make decisions based on factual data, which we now have. We are excited to add some new programs and see what participation will be like.”
Survey results identified a need for more recreational activities which were less competitive in nature. Parents want recreational programs without the formal and competitive team environment of a traditional team. They also see the value and importance in getting their children moving and active.
In response, PAL will be expanding it after-school Open Gym hours. Children, ages 5-18, may join PAL for $25 per year and take advantage of open gym at the PAL center 3 days a week. The PAL Center is located at 35 Hayestown Rd. Danbury and the open gym hours are Mon/Wed 3-5pm,Sat 10am-12pm
PAL will also be adding Monthly Middle School Recreation Nights . Upcoming dates are Sept. 25 , Oct. 23, and Nov. 13. These monthly events offer area middle schoolers a safe and fun place to spend their Friday nights. It will also be an opportunity for parents to have a night out knowing their children are safe and active. Activities will include glow in the dark Dodgeball, Volleyball, Table tennis, music, Ninja type obstacle courses and more.
