‘Danbury Crowns Them All’ Instagram Contest, by Pour Me Coffee & Wine Cafe, to Celebrate Downtown Enthusiasm
“Danbury Crowns Them All” Returns to Main Street as Pour Me Coffee & Wine Cafe Salutes All Things “Hat City”
Walk into Pour Me Coffee & Wine Cafe at 274 Main Street in Danbury, owner Andrea Gartner’s chic new addition to a reinvigorated Downtown, and the first thing you see is a welcoming wall mural. Andrea was certainly thorough in her greeting: “Welcome” is not only up there in English, but in the more than 50 languages spoken in “Hat City” throughout its neighborhoods. In fact, 54 languages were spoken in Danbury schools this past academic year, adding another 10. But it doesn’t stop there. On the opposite wall (see image above) there is another mural, a blowup taken from the archives of the Danbury Museum & Historical Museum. It features a lesser known City tagline: “Danbury Crowns Them All”.
Over 100 years ago, c. 1904, Danbury produced 24% of America’s hats, and the City supplied the industry with 75% of its hat bodies. At the turn of the century with a flourishing and crowning industry, Danbury became known as “Hat City” and “Hatting Capitol of the World”. But Its motto, seen greeting arrivals at the Danbury Train Station and at trolley stops along Main Street, was “Danbury Crowns Them All”. It stuck, so much so that William E. Devlin wrote, in 1984, We Crown Them All: An Illustrated History of Danbury. Now it’s here to stay, looking over a tony crowd of fast-fine diners (the award-winning Rocket Fuel Vegan Chili is a must), Main Street enthusiasts, and those who enjoy a creative, atmospheric buzz over a fine cup of coffee.
On Sunday, July 16th, Pour Me, providing best-ingredient food & drink to fuel & fortify people to do their good in the world, will complete its first month of being open to the public, and a contest is being held to celebrate. “At Pour Me Coffee & Wine Cafe, our ‘Danbury Crowns Them All’ sign represents how important Downtown Danbury and community pride are to us and we want to spread this feeling of connection and unity far and wide,” says Andrea. “Help us bring the whole universe to a revitalized Downtown”.
To enter post a picture of you and the Crown on your Instagram with #wearedowntowndanbury and @pourmect, and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a $100 Pour Me gift card. The winner will be announced on July 16th. And, since the Danbury Museum & Historical Society has been so helpful in providing background and history, the Museum is tossing in a tour for four of their unique grounds. So visit, snap away, and perhaps you’ll be crowned the winner!
Pour Me Coffee & Wine Cafe is open Mondays through Wednesdays, 6:00am to 10:00pm, Thursdays and Fridays, 6:00am to 11:00pm, Saturdays, 8:00am to 11:00pm, and Sundays, 8:00am to 9:00pm. For more information or to make reservations, call (203) 743 6246 or email [email protected].
