Damage to Heating Units at Bethel High School Requires Repair and One Replacement Via Crane, Over Gym, This Weekend

Message from Dr. Christine Carver, Superintendent of Bethel Public Schools

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, and Community Members:

The recent cold snap has created multiple issues across the campus on our rooftop HVAC units, causing heating issues. We are in the process of making repairs to all units. While waiting for unit repairs, we have looked into getting in touch with a service similar to Green Horizon (see HTTPS://GREENHORIZON.COM/HEATING/FURNACE-REPLACEMENT-INSTALLATION/), we have had to move some classes and/or put in temporary heating supplies.

The rooftop unit above the gymnasium at Bethel High School had the most significant damage and the whole unit needs to be replaced. For it not to get worse, it was important for the school to get in touch with a roofing company, as they could help get the roof looking as good as new, but most importantly, safe.

Because of the size of the unit, it will require a crane to remove the old unit and install the new unit. We are anticipating that the crane will be staged next Saturday, January 27th, with removal and installation of the unit on Sunday, January 28th. We will make every effort to minimize disruption to traffic on Whittlesey Drive and weekend events, but please be aware it may cause some delays. We will work closely with the Bethel Police Department to monitor traffic.

Please note that during the repair there will be no access to BHS gym and music wing. Also, parking behind BHS will be prohibited. This will not affect the production of Little Shop of Horrors on Sunday.

I will keep you updated if there are any changes in the timeline or schedule of the HVAC unit replacement.

Christine Carver, Ed. D.

Superintendent of Schools
