Mesquite, TX – Authorities have charged 22-year-old Jordan Greer with capital murder after his 7-week-old baby allegedly died from repeated physical abuse. Greer is accused of violently hitting the infant’s head against a crib on multiple occasions.
Incident and Response
The incident occurred on September 18 shortly after 5 p.m. at a home on the 5800 block of Northwest Drive in Mesquite, a city east of Dallas. Police responded to reports that a “small child was unconscious and not breathing.”
Officers found the infant in medical distress and immediately began life-saving measures with assistance from the Mesquite Fire Department. The baby was then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and observation.
Injuries and Investigation
Police reported that the infant suffered multiple injuries, including a skull fracture, brain swelling, brain bleeding, and several rib fractures at different stages of healing. Authorities said the injuries were consistent with extreme physical abuse. A medical evaluation concluded that the injuries were intentional and resulted from at least two separate incidents.
Suspect Confession and Arrest
Initially, Greer expressed confusion about how his baby was hurt. However, during a later interview, he allegedly admitted to shaking and striking the infant’s head against the crib, acknowledging he may have caused the child’s death.
The infant was pronounced dead five days after the initial incident according to the reports. By September 22, police had gathered enough evidence to charge Jordan Greer with capital murder. He was booked into the Dallas County Jail with no bond, and the investigation remains ongoing.
