With its opening of the exhibition, Impact Arts Collection with Works by Frank Kara, at @287 Gallery & Meeting Place, the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut reached a milestone – its 10th year – but the birthday candles won’t be blown out until its celebratory, and always anticipated, Business Supports the Arts awards breakfast on October 20th.

Turning ten-years-old is a milestone. It’s double digits, almost tweens. With its opening of the exhibition, Impact Arts Collection with Works by Frank Kara, at @287 Gallery & Meeting Place, the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut reached a milestone – its 10th year – but the birthday candles won’t be blown out until its celebratory, and always anticipated, Business Supports the Arts awards breakfast on October 20th. “Until then, there’s lots to look forward to,” says Lisa Scails, Executive Director of the organization, which promotes the arts, history, and culture, appropriately, in ten regional towns – Danbury, Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield, and Sherman. “Since the traditional gift for a 10th anniversary is tin, we’re already looking to invite visual artists to create tin centerpieces for this year’s Business Supports the Arts awards breakfast. It’s a banner year!” she adds, “but a banner year also means the Cultural Alliance must take stock of its successes and build a new, vibrant, and purposeful next ten years.”

To that immediate end, the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut is offering 10 events and 10 workshops in 2016.  Among the activities to be held at @287 Gallery & Meeting Place, 287 Main Street, Danbury, are a Downtown Danbury Merchant Mixer, co-sponsored by CityCenter Danbury on March 3rd, a series of workshops for arts leaders, nonprofits, and other stakeholders that address State Arts Grants, Art in Public Spaces, Making Great News, Proposal Writing, and more.  Dates and details are available by going to http://bit.ly/1WhIe6z

In addition, the Cultural Alliance has stepped up its advocacy efforts for the region and urges area arts leaders, Board members and Trustees to attend Connecticut Arts Day on Wednesday, March 2nd in Hartford ,”to move the arts from nice to necessary”. The Cultural Alliance is also co-sponsoring the inaugural Ives Fine Art and Crafts Festival and participating in CT Open House Day, both in June.

The current exhibition at @287 Gallery & Meeting Place, Impact Arts Collection with Works by Frank Kara, continues through Friday, April 15th. Hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm Tuesdays through Fridays, 11:00am to 3:00pm on Saturdays. Exhibitions to follow will include The Artwork of Tina Cobelle-Sturges, opening Friday, April 29th; Paintings from the Carole Joy Collection featuring Manuel Hughes, opening Friday, August 5th; and Sheltered by Susan McCaslin, opening Friday, November 11th.

In its 10th year, the Cultural Alliance’s goal is to raise $50,000 to make its 10th a “ten-plus” and to acquire the necessary resources moving forward to support and market the region’s creative assets. The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut has a head start thanks to the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation, Fairfield County Bank, Savings Bank of Danbury, Union Savings Bank, Benay Enterprises, and CityCenter Danbury for their generous support. “We have real needs to improve infrastructure,” adds Lisa Scails. “We welcome corporate sponsors to support programs and help us get the tools we need, volunteers to help programs run well, new members to promote their work, and ten arts angels to match our corporate funding. It’s hugely important to keep the candles lit!”
