Republican State Rep. Jay Case, 63rd General Assembly District, Representing Winchester, Torrington, Colebrook, Goshen) responds to Malloy’s 2-Year Budget released today, Feb. 18, 2015:
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy released his two-year budget today, leaving Connecticut’s most vulnerable population without essential services.
I firmly believe the governor is turning his back on Connecticut’s most vulnerable population by cutting necessary social and developmental services – including closing Torrington’s office of Department of Developmental Services. These decisions are detrimental to northwest Connecticut and the communities where we live.
Gov. Malloy could have focused on cutting unnecessary line items like publicly-funded campaign mailers and annoying television ads. Instead, Malloy has put intellectual and developmental disabilities on the chopping block to fund 30 years of road work and congested traffic.
I will continue fighting for the I/DD community and its services, by pushing for cuts elsewhere and focusing on campaign finance reform. Gov. Malloy’s budget proposes additional burdens on already struggling small businesses and hospitals.
