SAN DIEGO — After a warmer-than-usual weekend, San Diego County is in for a noticeable cooldown this week as a low-pressure system moves across the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts cooler temperatures, increased cloud cover, and patchy fog along the coast in the coming days.
Cooler Days Ahead
The start of the week will bring a refreshing change as temperatures dip back to seasonal norms. Highs on Monday are expected to range from the low 70s near the coast to the low 80s inland. Cooler air and stronger breezes will make the weather feel more comfortable, especially after recent unseasonable warmth.
Monday’s Forecasted Highs:
- San Diego: 72°
- Vista: 75°
- Chula Vista: 71°
- El Cajon: 81°
- Escondido: 78°
- Ramona: 81°
- Alpine: 78°
- Palomar Mountain: 71°
- Campo: 81°
- Borrego Springs: 91°
Foggy Mornings Possible
Residents along the coast should be prepared for overnight patchy fog, which could become dense in some areas and reduce visibility during early morning hours. Meteorologists say the fog and low clouds may even drift into the western inland valleys before clearing by late morning.
Overnight lows will fall into the 40s in the inland valleys and mountains, while the coast and desert regions will stay milder, dropping into the upper 50s.
Midweek Brings Cooler Air and Strong Winds
A Pacific storm system will edge closer to the West Coast by Tuesday, pushing temperatures even lower. Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be the coolest days of the week, according to the NWS.
Gusty winds could make conditions feel even cooler in higher elevations. The NWS predicts gusts up to 40 mph in the mountains and deserts, potentially impacting outdoor activities and travel through mountain passes.
The storm’s approach will also bring increased cloud coverage, particularly around the mountains, keeping skies gray for much of midweek.
Warming Trend Toward the Weekend
By Friday, the weather pattern will begin to shift again. As the low-pressure system exits, warmer and calmer conditions are forecast to return across San Diego County. Inland valley temperatures could climb back into the upper 70s to low 80s, offering a pleasant end to the week.
Coastal areas are expected to remain comfortable, with highs hovering in the low 70s and mild evening breezes keeping conditions enjoyable for outdoor plans.
What Residents Should Expect
While this week’s weather won’t bring any major storms or rainfall, the combination of fog, wind, and fluctuating temperatures could still affect morning commutes and outdoor routines. Drivers are urged to use caution during foggy hours and be mindful of reduced visibility.
As San Diego transitions deeper into fall, weather patterns like this one are becoming more frequent — with alternating periods of cool, foggy mornings and warm, sunny afternoons. The NWS says these shifts are typical for November as the region prepares for the cooler winter months.
