Convicted Felon Arrested after Two Crashes, High-Speed Chase, and Cocaine Seizure in Cass County

Cass County, MO – A dramatic late-night chase in Cass County, Missouri, led to the arrest of Pierre J. Jones, 39, a Kansas City man and convicted felon now facing a long list of felony charges. According to Cass County Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday, Nov. 26, Jones was apprehended after crashing his vehicle twice, fleeing on foot, and tossing a gun into a field as Missouri State Troopers pursued him.

The investigation revealed that Jones was found with 58 grams of cocaine, a digital scale, multiple electronic devices, and a disabled ignition interlock device — all discovered after Troopers secured the scene of the pursuit near I-49.

Felony Charges Filed Against the Suspect

Court documents list several felony charges against Pierre J. Jones, including:

  • Aggravated fleeing
  • Unlawful possession of a weapon
  • Delivery of a controlled substance
  • Unlawful use of a weapon
  • Operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner

Authorities say Jones’ actions during the pursuit, combined with the items discovered inside the vehicle, led to the extensive list of charges now pending against him.

The Chase Begins Near 155th Street

The incident began shortly after 11 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, when a Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper observed a purple Dodge Charger with a tinted California license plate near 155th St.

When the Trooper activated his emergency lights, Jones initially appeared to comply by pulling onto the shoulder of an exit ramp. But seconds later, investigators say he suddenly accelerated, reaching speeds over 80 mph despite the wet roadway conditions.

The decision to flee set off a dangerous pursuit that would ultimately result in two crashes, a foot chase, and a substantial drug seizure.

Two Crashes Within Minutes

Less than a minute into the chase, the Charger lost control and slammed into a concrete barrier, according to law enforcement. Despite the collision, Jones continued driving.

Moments later, the fleeing driver sped over a traffic circle, where he lost control again and spun 180 degrees, disabling the vehicle. With the Dodge no longer drivable, Jones abandoned the car and began running toward a grassy median.

During the chase on foot, Troopers reported seeing Jones throw a handgun into the grass before he was ultimately detained.

Evidence Recovered From the Vehicle

Once Jones was in custody, Troopers began searching the wrecked Charger. Court records detail several items recovered, including:

  • 58 grams of cocaine sealed inside a plastic bag
  • A digital scale, commonly associated with drug distribution
  • Two iPhones and a Samsung tablet
  • An ignition interlock device — required due to a previous DWI conviction, but found unplugged in the trunk

Authorities also quoted Jones as saying, “I dropped my phone,” when asked why he ran. He reportedly later admitted that his driver’s license was revoked, confirming suspicions that he fled to avoid additional penalties.

Convicted Felon With Violent Criminal Past

A background check revealed that Jones is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms. His prior arrests include:

  • Unlawful gun possession
  • Drug possession
  • Resisting arrest
  • Kidnapping

The discovery of a firearm during the chase further compounds the severity of his charges, as per KCTV.

What Comes Next for Jones

As of Friday, Nov. 28, Jones remains held at the Cass County Jail with no bond set. A bond review hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, where a judge will determine whether he remains detained or becomes eligible for release under specific conditions.

Authorities are expected to continue reviewing evidence related to the weapon, drugs, and electronic devices found during the investigation.

This arrest raises questions about repeat offenders, high-speed chases, and public safety on Missouri’s highways. Do you think law enforcement handled the situation appropriately? Should repeat felons face stricter penalties or monitoring?
